Days 1–7
Expect some swelling, scabbing, and redness around the grafts. Most people are back at a desk within a few days. Follow the clinic's washing and sleeping instructions closely — this is when the grafts are most delicate.
Weeks 2–4: the shed you shouldn't fear
The transplanted hairs usually fall out — the so-called shock loss. It looks alarming but it's fully expected; the follicle stays put and regrows later.
Months 3–6: regrowth begins
Fresh hairs start pushing through, fine at first and thickening as they mature. This is when you actually begin to see progress.
Months 9–12: the final result
By nine to twelve months you're near the end result, with 90–95% graft survival in skilled hands. Most surgeons want you on finasteride/minoxidil to protect your untransplanted hair so the outcome lasts.
